Job Description

We' re now hiring a Welder for our client, one of the largest suppliers of railroad and transit system products and services worldwide, located in Winston-Salem! This opportunity is 1st shift (7: 00am-3: 30pm) and offers a pay rate of $15.00-18.00 per hour! The Welder will be responsible for Mig welding for all production work, finish weld, tack weld, locate and align blocks/bosses, wash, deburr, and set up, while supporting machining leads to meet production requirements. Tig welding experience is not required, but candidates may be trained on Tig for potential future work. The ideal candidate will have some formal welding training and be able to pass all pass all required pre-employment weld tests. - Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, (MIG, TIG, and Stick)
- Demonstrate capability to follow and improve standard work and to follow all quality control plans
- Ability to use in-process verification and quality inspections to catch any quality issues
- Clean and 5S workstation to meet housekeeping standards

- Perform manual tasks such as deburr, wash and inspection of incoming and outgoing work

- Perform quality inspections, chart quality data and monitor quality trends
- Properly assess and compensate for variations due to incoming part quality, process variations, process changes, engineering changes and part shortages

- Diagnose quality defects and perform adjustments to non-conforming parts

- Utilize fixtures & templates

- Perform rework without standard work documents as needed

- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback in areas of quality, safety, velocity, and cost

- Transport materials with crane, power pusher, or electric pallet jack

- High school diploma or equivalent and/or Technical degree or Certificate in Machining
- Computer literate and ability to read Blueprints
- Geometry and/or trigonometry experience is required
- Formal welding training in vocational or trade school is preferred
- Ability to pass the following weld tests: 2F, 4F, 1G, 3G and Mild Steel
- Ability to weld components in flat, vertical, horizontal or overhead positions
- Comfortable working in the shop and moving up to 35 pounds
- Comfortable working near moving mechanical parts, overhead cranes and lift truck traffic
- Required to wear hearing protection in designated areas, metatarsal safety shoes, and approved safety glasses
- Must be able to work in a team environment
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to demonstrate strong initiative
- Capable of interpreting technical instructions, dealing with large degrees of variation with part and process consistency while delivering the highest levels of quality components
- Extensive problem solving skills
